Cooking suin choi

Decided I'll cook one last time before my kitchen closes for the move. Oh yeah, I'm moving house in a couple of weeks. Will let you guys know my new address then. Anyway, back to the cooking - this time suin choi. I don't know how to translate it to English - "sour vegetables"? It's mustard leaves, dried assam (sour plum??), dried chilli, my 'secret' ingredient, roast pork, etc. Took a while to hunt down the ingredients (ironically it's easier to find the ingredients in Melbourne than Singapore) but here are the results. Want some? ;-)

Yum....loads of dried chilli

One of the roasted ingredients - nope it's not the 'secret' ingredient and I only used the neck. Don't know what hormones have been injected into the head.

Mustard leaves - loads and loads of them

Stewing, cooking....

Tried to sneak it's way into the pot via the vegetables - uh no mate...bad idea...

Almost ready...

Voila! It's finished....(and in my tummy in less than 5 mins)

So till the kitchen reopens in the new place...

The souring ingredient is called dried tamarind pieces not sour plum. And I normally soak this particular type of mustard leaves in a quick salt bath before I give them a final rinse to rid them of snails or red long thread-like earthworms which they are known to have. These vegetables must be grown in water or near water to nearly always have pests like these. They will all emerge from wherever they are hiding when the brine hits them!
